About us

India Labourline (ILL) is an Alternate Labour Dispute Resolution Mechanism that addresses labour rights violations faced by informal sector workers. Through mediation and legal aid, ILL supports workers often excluded from formal grievance systems. Since its inception in July 2021, ILL has registered over 21,000 cases, recovering more than ₹21 Crores in unpaid wages and compensation for workers. The program is inspired by Aajeevika Bureau’s LEAD initiative, which focuses on providing legal education, aid, and advocacy to informal and migrant workers.

PS

India Labourline (ILL) is committed to safeguarding the rights of unorganized sector workers and enhancing their access to justice. ILL addresses labour rights violations through mediation, legal support, and other mechanisms and empowers workers to claim their entitlements. A key part of our work involves Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR), enabling workers to secure what is rightfully theirs.

Our program operates through a network of Workers Facilitation Centers in 14 cities, field fellows in 5 cities and a toll-free helpline (offering services in six languages) to register and mediate labour disputes, ensuring access to justice for unorganized workers across India.

Our Model

Case Managers

Trained case managers mediate disputes and help register cases via our toll-free helpline, available with six language capabilities.

Worker Facilitation Centres (WFCs)

The field teams conduct outreach, register cases, and provide on the ground support in Case Resolution.

Partnerships

ILL is a collaborative effort of a network of ten civil society partners that run Worker Facilitation Centres across 14 cities.

Fellowships

Independent Labour Rights activists who contribute to the mission of ILL.

Key Program Components

Outreach

Engage with workers in industrial areas, labour addas and workers' residential areas.

Case Registration

Workers can register cases during outreach activities or by calling our toll-free number.

Mediation & Resolution

Our teams undertake mediation between workers and employers to resolve cases.

Legal Interventions

In some cases, we issue legal notices and file cases in labour court.

Mission to Reach More Women

In our ongoing efforts to expand our impact, ILL has recognized the critical need to increase the participation of women in our program. Currently, less than 10% of the cases registered with ILL are by women, a situation influenced by societal challenges and gender norms. To address this disparity, ILL is focusing on sectors with higher female representation, such as garments, textiles, and home-based work. Through targeted outreach, we aim to educate and support women, empowering them to seek justice for labour rights violations and benefit from the services we provide.

Aajeevika bureau

The ILL program is centrally managed by Aajeevika Bureau, India’s foremost civil society organization working on labour and migration issues for over two decades. Aajeevika Bureau manages ILL through three regional offices located in Bangalore (South), Mumbai (West), and Delhi (North).
